You’ve probably seen the headlines in the news over the past few days, as a recent study released the results from a multi year study that showed that the prevelance of hearing loss in teens is on the rise with 1 in 5 showing signs of hearing loss. The loss can have an impact on their time spent at school, language development and social interactions.

As you may have read before on our site, there is some speculation that this 30% increase in teen hearing loss since the 90’s could be in connection to the increased use of earbuds and MP3 players as well as other noise induced influences. We’ve made it a point at eshc to help inform our patients of the dangers of NIHL (noise induced hearing loss) through awarenss concerts, informative brochures, and distribution of earplugs at events throughout the community.

If you’re concerned that you or your child might be in danger of NIHL, schedule an appointment for a hearing test and speak with your doctor of audiology about your concerns. There are many different options to helping keep your hearing health at it’s best! Custom earplugs, noise canceling headphones and learning safe listening levels are some of the ways we can help keep your ears safe.
